An agreement for the dynamisation of the Lobito Corridor was signed in the Municipality of Lobito, between the Governments of Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The tripartite agreement was signed by the Angola side, by the Minister of Transport Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Ambassador Extraordinary of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia Minister of Transport and Logistics Franck Tayaly, with the support and coordination of the Southern African Development Community Secretariat ( SADC ).
Angolan Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu said, that this is an act that the Government attaches special importance to.
“Our Government attaches special importance to Lobito Corridor, because it understands that this infrastructure plays a key role in the socio-economic context of Angola and the region,” he said.
According to the official, the agreement provides logistic access for importing critical domestic consumption goods, serves as a catalyst for domestic production, improving logistics for the import of raw materials and for the export of final products.
Ricardo D’Abreu made it known that, the agreement envisages consolidating cooperation relations in the domain of the movement of people and goods, accelerating the growth of domestic and cross-border trade along the Lobito Corridor, seen as an alternative strategic route for Zambia’s export markets and DRC once it connects the major mining regions of these two countries to the sea.
To emphasize that, the Delegation of Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo headed by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, was received by the Provincial Governor Luís Nunes.
